Fireworks
Shooting fireworks is prohibited throughout the Brussels Region, even on private property. And there are multiple reasons for that.
5 good reasons to party without fireworks
- It is forbidden
It’s simple: shooting fireworks is prohibited throughout the Brussels Region, even on private property. Releases of balloons or lanterns are also prohibited for aviation safety reasons. So you risk a fine.
- It's dangerous
You can injure yourself by lighting fireworks, or by being a victim of fireworks lit by someone else. Victims are usually men (89%). One in four victims is under 16 years old. The most affected parts of the body are the eyes (32%), hands and fingers (30%), and face (26%). Moreover, most victims did not turn on the fireworks themselves and were only spectators, children for instance.
- It increases the risk of fire
You can’t control where the fireworks will fall. And as the name suggests, it’s still fire…
- It makes animals suffer
Animals are very sensitive to loud noises. It may seem funny to some, but it is a real pain for them. Moreover, fireworks create panic that can cause accidents and sometimes cost the lives of our four-legged friends.
- It’s bad for your health
The concentrations of particles, determined during and immediately after the fireworks, peaks from normal values. This can be particularly dangerous for people with respiratory sensitivity such as young children and people with allergies or asthma. These particles are afterwards found in soils and sewers.
